FAQ about CBD

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many cannabinoids you can find in the hemp plant. Unlike his cousin tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. CBD does not get your dog “high” or make them feel impaired.

You can find the all-natural chemical CBD in the leaves, flowers and stems of the cannabis-sativa plants. This compound interacts with your endocannabinoid system and helps bringing it into balance. In other words, it can help with the overall wellbeing and supports certain systems in our pet’s physiology.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

Every living being with a spinal column has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which evolved 600 million years ago. Scientists discovered cannabinoid receptors throughout the body, including our skin, immune cells, in the bones and in the internal organs.

The ECS reacts to endogenous cannabinoids throughout the whole body. Endocannabinoids are one of the most versatile signaling molecules known to this day and are very important to create homeostasis (“inner balance”). This system is activated by the body’s own cannabinoids and can also be supported by, for example, CBD when it is dysfunctional or damaged. (To prevent a spectrum of disorders and diseases — for example, anxiety, stress, inflammation, nausea, arthritis, epilepsy, and cancer.)

What are the possible benefits of CBD?

CBD has many health benefits. Most of those benefits come from the ability to interact with the endocannabinoid system. This system helps bringing our bodies into balance.

The main benefits CBD could offer, include:

- Pain relief, a lot of our pets struggle with arteritis, multiple sclerosis, nerve pain, ..

- Inflammatory conditions;  muscle pain, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis

- Anxiety & stress relief; A lot of pets suffer from separation anxiety.

- Skin inflammation — psoriasis, eczema

- Sleep support; insomnia, anxiety

- Depression & mood disorders; bipolar disorder, OCD

- Seizures, epileptic attacks

How long do the effects of CBD last?

How long CBD will stay in your dog's body depends on many different factors. Some of these factors are:

- Weight

- Activity level

- Diet

- Your dog’s own biochemical makeup

Frequency of CBD dosing

Usually, the effect of CBD could last between 4 and 6 hours. This depends on the frequency of using CBD. After 2 weeks of using CBD, the level of CBD in your bloodstream will remain higher what means it could work up to 12 hours per dose.

How long does it take for CBD to work for my pet?

In general, between 30 and 60 minutes, however it depends on how and where you are using CBD for.

What is CO2 extraction?

Customers and manufacturers alike agree that CO2 extraction is one of the best methods for making CBD oil. To derive the components of the plants or herbs, CO2 extraction relies on supercritical carbon dioxide, meaning it can fill a chamber like a gas while retaining the density of a liquid.
It behaves as a solvent, stripping cannabinoids from the plant matter.
They put the plant matter within a chamber, which is sealed before passing the supercritical CO2 through. As the CO2 solvent extracts all the cannabinoids, they fall into a collection chamber.
The CO2, meanwhile, goes on into a separate chamber, where it can be recycled for use again and again. Finally, the plant matter remains behind, albeit with few cannabinoids left.

Do your products have a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?

Of course!  Everything is 3rd-party lab tested and COA’s are always available. You can find our 3rd party lab results on our product page. If you want to see a specific COA feel free to contact us.

Is CBD safe?

YES, CBD is very safe. There have been lots of large-scale clinical trials exploring the effects for specific health conditions. They have all been reported as low to nonexistent side effects associated with the supplements. During many of those trials they have used an exceptionally high doses, much more than you would ever give to your beloved pet.

However always make sure your product is 3rd party lab tested.

Can my pet overdose on CBD?

Luckily, it is extremely difficult to overdose on CBD.  However, giving an extreme high amount of CBD (way higher then the recommended dosage) could increase the chances of side effects.

Can CBD be harmful in combination with other medication?

In most cases it is not, however, we recommend consulting your vet about this.

How does CBD work for Anxiety?

CBD appears to reduce anxiety because by affecting the limbic and paralimbic areas of the brain, which are in charge of regulating emotions. By boosting activity in the GABA neurotransmitter, and consequently decreasing activity in the nervous system, CBD can create a calming effect in your pet.

What does CBD feel like?

The effect of CBD is rather subtle. One thing that is important to know is that is not psychoactive, meaning it won’t make your pet high. The effects of CBD are often described as giving you a sensation of calm and relaxation. The body may feel lighter or heavier, and the mind feels loose and relaxed.

The higher the dose, the stronger the effects. However, no matter much CBD you give your pet won’t get high.

How Does CBD Work For Pain?

The popularity of CBD as pain treatment is rising at a rapid pace. This is because CBD has the potential to regulate pain receptors, and block pain by inhibiting the inflammatory process. Moreover, it can promote faster recovery of damaged tissue. The more you CBD you use, the stronger its impact on pain. Thereby, if you give CBD to your pet more frequently, restorative can make it even more effective.
