What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many cannabinoids you can find in the hemp plant. Unlike his cousin tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. CBD does not get your dog “high” or make them feel impaired.

You can find the all-natural chemical CBD in the leaves, flowers and stems of the cannabis-sativa plants. This compound interacts with your endocannabinoid system and helps bringing it into balance. In other words, it can help with the overall wellbeing and supports certain systems in our pet’s physiology.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

Every living being with a spinal column has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which evolved 600 million years ago. Scientists discovered cannabinoid receptors throughout the body, including our skin, immune cells, in the bones and in the internal organs.

The ECS reacts to endogenous cannabinoids throughout the whole body. Endocannabinoids are one of the most versatile signaling molecules known to this day and are very important to create homeostasis (“inner balance”). This system is activated by the body’s own cannabinoids and can also be supported by, for example, CBD when it is dysfunctional or damaged. (To prevent a spectrum of disorders and diseases — for example, anxiety, stress, inflammation, nausea, arthritis, epilepsy, and cancer.)

What are the possible benefits of CBD?

CBD has many health benefits. Most of those benefits come from the ability to interact with the endocannabinoid system. This system helps bringing our bodies into balance.

The main benefits CBD could offer, include:

  • Pain relief, a lot of our pets struggle with arteritis, multiple sclerosis, nerve pain, ..
  • Inflammatory conditions;  muscle pain, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis
  • Anxiety & stress relief; A lot of pets suffer from separation anxiety.
  • Skin inflammation — psoriasis, eczema
  • Sleep support; insomnia, anxiety
  • Depression & mood disorders; bipolar disorder, OCD
